The process of making them from scratch, combining flour, butter, and milk to create a dough that is then carefully kneaded and cut into individual portions, requires a certain level of skill and patience. The anticipation as they bake in the oven, filling the kitchen with a warm, buttery aroma, is a delight in itself. And when you finally pull them out, golden brown and flakey, ready to be enjoyed with some jam or a drizzle of honey, it's a moment of pure satisfaction. Whether served at breakfast or as a comforting snack, homemade biscuits have a way of bringing people together and evoking feelings of nostalgia and warmth. By freezing the butter, you ensure that it is at the ideal temperature for cutting into the flour, creating a crumbly texture that will result in a perfectly tender and buttery pastry. This method also helps to prevent the butter from melting too quickly in the oven, allowing the dough to rise properly and bake evenly.


Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (218°C). This temperature gives your biscuits a lovely rise and golden color in the final bake


In a large mixing bowl, the process of combining the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt is crucial to ensure that each ingredient is thoroughly integrated. This step is essential for achieving a uniform texture and flavor in the final product. Mixing the dry ingredients thoroughly helps to break up any clumps or lumps that may be present in the flour or other ingredients, resulting in a smoother and more cohesive batter. Pop your skillet into the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Keep an eye on them, and take them out once they’re golden brown on top.
